Behind every drawing or sculpture, the body is an inherent part of the process and approach of Réjane Lhôte. In her series of self-portraits within an abyss, she kneels on the paper, facing a mirror. Beyond the introspection, in this long cycle of portraits, the artist captures the vibration and breath of the body in tension.
The portrait drawn at the end of September 2015 is the 20th in the series, which began six months ago. Evolving within the rigid frame of the sheet, the painted face is charged with the moment it was made, while the bust retains the memory of the body at work. Caught in the mesh of the stripped-down, physical line, the real body bursts forth.
Here again, the 1:1 scale is present, as it is throughout Réjane Lhôte's pictorial research.

Chez Réjane Lhôte, le corps est partie prenante du processus et de la démarche de tout dessin ou volume. Dans la série d’autoportraits mis en abîme, elle est à genoux sur la feuille, face à un miroir. Au-delà de l’introspection, dans ce cycle long de portraits, l’artiste saisit la vibration et la respiration du corps en tension.
Le portrait dessiné fin septembre 2015 est le 20ème de la série entreprise depuis six mois déjà. Evoluant à l’intérieur du cadre rigide de la feuille, le visage peint est chargé du moment où il a été fait, son buste, lui, garde la mémoire du corps au travail. Pris dans le maillage du dépouillé et physique trait, le corps réel fait irruption.
Là encore, l’échelle 1/1 est présente comme partout dans la recherche picturale de Réjane Lhôte.
